The Music That Defined 2017

This year has been a good one when it comes to music and new artists. As far as I can remember it has been two or three years since we had a strong year when it came down to new  music and artists. Artists like Lil Uzi Vert and SZA came on the scene with their début albums and took over the year with solid singles while other artists solidified themselves as artists to be reckoned with in the industry. So with no further wait, here is my list of artists who helped define 2017 in music.

Lil Uzi Vert – “XO Tour Llif3”

With his single XO Tour Llif3 catapulting him into the forefront of the industry, Lil Uzi Vert has become one of today’s most unique and relatable artists. The impact that “XO Tour Llif3” had this year is monumental as it is now 5x Platinum in the United States

Drake – More Life (Album)

Drake has a relatively quiet year outside of his More Life playlist he offered courtesy of his OVO Sound Music label. This project was considered by a lot of people as a mixtape even though Drake specifically said it was a playlist. This playlist broke several streaming records and was Drake’s seventh consecutive number one album.

The Migos – “Bad & Boujee”

The Migos took over 2017 with hit after hit from the group as a whole and its members being featured on other tracks. Quavo alone has the most top ten hits of the year with a total of six. The group started off 2017 with their lead single Bad & Boujee which became essentially the theme song for the year.

Cardi B – “Bodak Yellow”

After signing with Atlantic Records, Cardi B droppedBodak Yellowwhich became the second hottest song of the year after the Migo’s “Bad & Boujee”. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks making her the fifth female rapper to ever lead the chart, and second to do it solo. It seemed like everyone couldn’t get enough of the song and its beat which was produced by J. White.

Logic – “1-800-273-8255”

In a time where the suicide rate is increasing Logic gave us probably the most powerful song of the last couple of years with his single 1-800-273-8255. Thanks to the song calls directed to the NSPL rose by 27% along with their website visits.
