Review: Rae Sremmurd – “SR3MM”

Rae Sremmurd has raised the bar yet again with the latest installment of their Sremmlife series. When the duo hit the scene in 2015 they were known more for just dropping party tracks, now three albums in they have transformed their sound into something more than.

CLOSE feat. Travis Scott [SR3MM]

The track showcases a nice balance between Swae Lee’s vocals and Slim Jxmmi’s rapping. Of course, Swae Lee’s vocals are more of the highlight of the track to listeners. The single is one of the duo’s latest, but for me, one of their best tracks, off of their album.

Bedtime Stories feat. The Weeknd [SR3MM]

Again Swae Lee shines alongside The Weeknd who assists with the hook. The song actually seems like it should be on Swaecation, but since it’s a major feature they most likely decided to label it an SR3MM track. The song talks about being in a conflicting relationship where they are afraid of falling in love and the vulnerability that comes with it.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Swae Lee discussed how the song came to be.

“  We were on tour with The Weeknd. The “Legends of the Fall” tour. It’s coming towards the end of the tour and we wanted to get a song in… We ended up stopping in Atlanta and fuckin’ with Mike Will in the studio. Cooked up that “Bedtime Stories” organic. From scratch,…Pure collaboration pure vibes.”

Buckets feat. Future [SR3MM]

This track was catered more for Slim Jxmmi who is more comfortable rapping on hard-hitting beats. Alongside Future and Swae Lee, the playing field was leveled. Both members equally delivered solid verses with Future, of course, having the advantage. For me, it was sort of weird hearing Swae Lee rap after hearing him sing so much recently.

The Verdict

Overall this portion of the triple album didn’t disappoint me. With SR3MM, the duo continues to expand their sound and even help separate themselves as unique individual artists within the group. Out of the album’s nine tracks, I felt that only two tracks were fillers.

If you are a fan of the duo, you will not be let down by the joint effort of the Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi. SR3MM is the perfect album to start the party and the summer.
