One positive thing we can say about this year is the return of good R&B music. This year we have seen some of the artists who have been missing in action return with some heat. Giving us classic 80s/90s feels these artists have revived what many have been saying is a dying genre in mainstream. This trend started back when Summer Walker released her debut album Over It last October. Since then Usher, SZA, and now H.E.R. has given us some amazing songs with classic feels. This week we will look at H.E.R.’s new single “Damage” which has, and will be, in heavy rotation for me.
H.E.R. – “Damage”
I am totally in love with her latest single “Damage”. In the song, H.E.R sings bout how she’s allowing herself to be vulnerable in a relationship. She goes on and explains that if she isn’t too careful, her love interest could easily take advantage of her emotions and flip the switch. “Damage” samples the classic 1980s record “Making Love in the Rain” by Herb Alpert, Lisa Keith, and Janet Jackson.
“Damage” was one of two singles H.E.R. drop to build buzz for her first album.
What do you think of the song? Let me know!
