Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” wasn’t the first time Hip-Hop infiltrated Country music. Back in 2004, Nelly released his single ‘Over and Over’ featuring Tim McGraw. Then in 2017 Young Thug released his country-rap album Beautiful Thugger Girls. Each of these three had different reactions in the music industry but “Old Town Road” was the first single that made it on the Billboard Country charts. Just a week after it entered the charts it was removed because it “lacked elements that today’s country music contained.” Nevertheless, the impact of the song has sparked conversations of rather or not artists who aren’t country artists could ever crossover and be accepted into its ranks. Today we will be looking at these songs that managed to fuse the best of hip-hop and country together. It’s a rare occasion, but when it happened it was something quite interesting.
