In celebration of the Toronto Raptors winning their first NBA championship, announced that he will be designing the championship rings for the Raptors. It’s clear that Drake is proud of his team. So in honor of the Raptor’s win lets look at the history between the organization and their ambassador.

The Fan

If you’ve ever been to a Raptors game you have probably seen Drake. He’s often seen courtside in his seat near the scorer’s table with his enthusiastic displays and interactions. He’s literally that superfan we all love to hate. He taunts, trolls, and trash talks. He’s exactly what Toronto needed.

The Global Ambassador

But Drake is more than just a fan. He’s proven that his new position isn’t just for show. Since his arrival as the team’s global ambassador in 2013, Drake has been a big influence on the organization. He has helped inspire a set of alternate team jerseys featuring OVO’s colors/logo, offered narration of team ads, and hosts an annual ‘Drake Night”. The Raptors and OVO also spent millions of dollars refurbishing basketball courts across Toronto and the funding Canada Basketball. According to Forbes, the organization’s revenue has more than doubled since Drake joined.

So even though from the outside looking in we think Drake is putting the attention on himself, he’s actually helping shine a light on his city. His hard work to help put the Raptors in a better position as an organization has paid off. So as entertaining as it may be to see his antics on the sidelines and even after the game it’s genuine. At the end of the day, Drake’s actions are the same as any other hardcore fan feels for their team.
